Recognized Manipur’s distinctive history and political status – Public dialogue

The Two-Day Public Dialogue on Present Political Scenario in Manipur which concludes today Kuki Inn, Imphal has adopted 5 resolutions including demand for recognition of Manipur’s distinctive history and political status. The dialogue session which was organized by National Research Centre (NRC), was attended by various intellectuals, politicians and civil rights activists from the different communities of the state. The public dialogue also seriously discussed on the issues arises out of the framework agreement between the government of India and NSCN-IM and the ongoing peace talk with various armed groups of the state.
Resolution adopted in the two-day public dialogue is produced here :-Resolutions – “1) Considering the sovereign existence of Manipur as an Asiatic sovereign power for a long historical period of time, having established its kingdom with a two thousand year recorded history and the political status enjoyed by her at different historical epochs, Indian Constitution should give a constitutional recognition to her distinctive history and distinctive political status, and also should maintain a status quo of the existing territorial boundary of Manipur so that the peace and security of India and Manipur in particular is not jeopardized; 2) The present engagement with the Government, either at the state level or GoI, and the armed insurgent outfits in the peace process, and the resolutions thereof should not be based on ethnic lines; 3) The aspirations of the hill people cannot be realized without the consensus approval and consent of the valley people. Likewise, the aspirations of the valley people cannot be realized without the consensus approval and consent of the hill people. The GoI should realize this, and accordingly take the initiative to provide avenue for inter-community dialogue if the GoI really looks forward a genuine and enduring solution which will not be at the cost of each other; 4) Any development intervention should not be based on ethnic lines and reckless exploitation of natural resources in the name of development should be effectively checked. Sustainable utilization of resources needs be ensured so that the need of the future generation is not jeopardized and  5)There is no future without endeavouring together, collectively facing the onslaughts of the various invading forces in all forms which threaten the collective existence and interest of all the co-existing brethren native communities in the state.  The challenges that lie before us and the impending threats in any eventuality thereof should be overcome through united collective struggle and collective resistance of all the co-existing native ethnic brethren of the state of Manipur”.
