PWF disburses Medical Aid to Journalists

Paomee Welfare Foundation (PWF), the welfare trust of the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU), has disbursed Rs 1.40 lakh under its Medical Financial Assistance (MFA) Scheme for Phase II of 2025–26.
The assistance covered medical expenses incurred between October 1, 2025 and March 31, 2026. A total of seven applications were received and approved following scrutiny by the Medical Board headed by Dr Kh. Palin of Shija Hospitals and Research Institute and Dr Kh. Lokeshwor Singh, Superintendent of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences.
The distribution ceremony was held at the Manipur Press Club in the presence of PWF Chairperson N. Tombiraj, AMWJU President Asem Bhakta, PWF Secretary Borun Thokchom and other office bearers.
Among the beneficiaries, senior journalist Salam Bharat Bhusan received Rs 50,000 for treatment of prostate carcinoma, while Ningthoujam Amuba of ISTV received Rs 25,000 for treatment of left temporo-parietal haemorrhage. Other beneficiaries included Angom Ranjit Singh of Poknapham, Koijam Suraj of Pandam, Yendrembam Herojit of Akhoigi-Panthung, Khumanthem Dhanachandra Singh of Imphal Times and Jimmy Leivon of The Indian Express.
Meanwhile, PWF has invited applications for Phase I of the MFA Scheme for 2026–27, covering treatment expenses incurred between April 1 and September 30, 2026. The scheme is open to eligible AMWJU members, including associate and retired members with at least 10 consecutive years of membership.
