National pulse polio immunisation program was organised today by the CMO, Imphal East at its office located at Porompat.
Attending the immunisation program, DC, Imphal East, M. Joy Singh said that the first phase of the immunisation program will continue till the 20th Jan and the 2nd phase will start from 22nd Feb. The first phase is being organised at 12 primary health centres of Imphal East which will cover 382 booths. There were 496 booths last year but less fund has been sanctioned by the government this year the no. of booths have been reduced a lot, said Joy. He added that every parent must give their infants of 0 to 5 years with Polio vaccine to have a polio free generation in future. Many mobile booths have been opened at various places including bus parking and crowded areas where parents could easily get their children vaccinated.
Dr. Ch. Aruna, District Family Welfare Officer, Imphal East said that the polio disease was last detected in the year of 2011 at Howrah. And hence India has declared polio free nation in Jan, 2014. But the neighbouring countries like Bangladesh and Myanmar have not been successful in eradicating the disease, hence giving immunisation to the infant is still important in order to prevent from importing the disease, added Aruna.
