Public meets organized at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Sanglen, to discuss on the present agitation by Joint Committee on Inner Line permit System (JCILPS) today opines to stand tight with the 5 point recommendation made by them to the government for framing of an Inner Line Permit legislation in the state. There were however, mixed responses on whether the representatives of the JCILPS should meet the government or not regarding the recent development.
The public meeting was moderated by Senior Journalist Irengbam Arun and presided over by Kh. Ratan, Convenor in charge of the JCILPS. Several eminent personalities like former director of MACS Dr. Khomdon Lisham, Ibotombi Khuman, Ex- President JCILPS, Yumnamcha Dilip, President PADAM, Phunindro Konsam, Advocate, Araba Angomcha, RK Rajendra, Retd. Col, Hareshwar Goswami, Retd. MCS officer and other leaders of the Meira Paibis, Club organizations and members of the JAC Against the brutal Killing of Sapam Robinhood expressed their views on what the JCILPS should do.
Most of the speakers expressed their dissatisfaction to the attitude of the government in dealing with the public issue. They also do have confidence to the drafting committee constituted by the government headed by Senior Cabinet Minister Devendra.
Former Project Director of MACS, Dr. Khomdon Lisam said that the Chairman of the Drafting Committee is the father of the foreigners who is using them to his election and how could the people trust to this committee. Khomdon further said that there is constitutional expert in the drafting committee and there is no reason to believe that this committee will draft a proposal for protection of the indigenous people of the state that the people of the state have been demanding.
Uncle of Sapam Robinhood while sharing his opinion said that there will be no meeting points if the member of the JCILPS meet the government regarding the ongoing demand of the public. He said his son has been killed and let the government give ILP in exchange with his life. But the JCILPS need to meet the government to express what should be the content of the bill that the people of the state are demanding.
Chairman of the JAC against the brutal killing of Sapam Robinhood , Ch. Hemchandra said that already 15 days had passed that Sapam Robinhood has been brutally murdered by the state police force and till today no action has been taken up against the involved police personnel. He said unless there is bandh or blockade or the people bleed the government has never acted as according to the will of the people.
An aged Meira Paibi leader while speaking on the occasion said that the demand of the ILP is a long pending issue and today a student has been killed. There is no way that the JCILPS should hold talk with the government unless they fulfilled the demand of the people.
Most of the speakers during the occasion suggested that the JCILPS has already put up 5 point recommendation to the government and unless they include all the recommendation in the new bill there is no point of meeting the government.
Till the filing of this report the meeting could not take any resolution on what the JCILPS should do, but as according to the Moderator of the meeting Irengbam Arun, most people has given opinion not to meet the government unless all the recommendations out up by the JCILPS has been included in the bill. He said that people have lost faith to the government as they have shown their insincerity time and again.
