Protests continues despite assurance of a new Bill

The main market of Imphal city took on a sense of barely restrained tension as the women vendors forced all shops to remain closed since early in the morning today. A Sit in protest was staged by the agitating women in the morning with the vendors occupying the market sheds. Later, a protest rally was taken out by the Khwairamband women vendors at 1.30 in the afternoon shouting slogans and displaying placards which reads “ Immediately implement Inner Line Permit System in Manipur”, “Punish the state police personnel responsible for the death of Sapam Robinhood and injuring a large number of students” etc. During the rally which saw the participation of more than a hundred women, a brief scuffle ensued when the state security personnel tried to contain the agitators, however there was no reports of untoward incident or injury. Residents of Keishampat Keisham Leikai also staged a sit-in-protest at the community hall of the locality where a large number of locals including senior citizens displayed placards demanding the implementation of ILPS in Manipur, resignation of the representatives who cannot implement ILPS, exemplary punishment for the police personnel responsible for the death of Sapam Robinhood and injuring many, safety of indigenous people of Manipur etc. Chanura Marup, MPP also joined in the demand for the implementation of ILPS by staging a sit-in-protest in front of the party office. In addition, reports of agitations and sit-in protests from various other part of the state have been coming in. locals of Patsoi Part I, Wapokpi, Khurai Konsam Leikai, Tejpur, Keishampat Lairembi Usha Hall, Tera Loukrakpam Leikai, Apunba Meira Paibi Lup, Yurembam Meira Paibi Apunba Lup, Uningthong Bazar also joined in the demand for the implementation of ILPS and the cause for protection and preservation of the indigenous inhabitants of the state.
