Imphal, Jan 17:

A large group of people, including members of the Mekola Apunba Meira Paibi, RKS Committee, and Mekola Youth Association, staged a sit-in protest today in front of Mekola Primary Health Center (PHC). The protest was in response to alleged unbearable monetary demands made by certain groups targeting the staff of the health center.
The protesters carried placards with messages such as “Stop the Mental Harassment,” “Help Us Build a Healthy and Peaceful Society,” “Stop Harassing the Healers,” “Patient Care Under Duress is Highly Contraindicated,” and “Our Duty of Caring & Healing the Sick is Also a Service to the Nation.” Another placard in the local language read, “Do not make unjust monetary demands from health workers.”
Speaking at the protest, Khumanthem Tababi Devi, a member of Mekola Apunba Meira Paibi, expressed solidarity with the health workers of the PHC. She highlighted their critical role in serving the nation through their dedication to public health. “The unbearable monetary demands have become a burden on these health workers, and we urge those responsible to put an end to this exploitation,” she stated.
The demonstrators emphasized that health workers are vital to the community, and any harassment or undue pressure on them not only disrupts their ability to provide care but also impacts the overall well-being of the society.
The protestors demanded immediate intervention from authorities to address the issue and ensure that health workers can perform their duties without harassment or undue financial pressure. They also called for stricter measures to prevent such incidents in the future, underscoring the importance of protecting those who serve the community.
