Imphal, Feb 9:
A large number of womenfolk and club members from Kakmayai and its surrounding areas in Thoubal district staged a protest demonstration in front of the India Reserve Battalion (IRB) post after unidentified gunmen looted weapons on Saturday night.
According to reports, armed men arrived in multiple vehicles and seized arms from the IRB outpost in the Kakmayai area. Officials confirmed that at least six Self-Loading Rifles (SLRs) and three AK rifles were taken from personnel of the IRB and Manipur Rifles, along with around 270 rounds of ammunition and 12 magazines.
Following the incident, a large group of Meira Paibis rushed to the IRB post. In collaboration with IRB personnel, they managed to detain one suspect, while others escaped. Additional security forces have been deployed to the area, and search operations are underway. An investigation into the incident is also in progress, officials said.
Local Meira Paibis and club members strongly condemned the act, stating that the IRB post was established to protect the people during the ongoing crisis. They appealed for the immediate return of the looted weapons to ensure public safety.
