Large number of women today staged protests against the harassment by Rapid Action Force (RAF) in Singjamei and Moirangkhom area.
At Singjamei Parking, members of the Singjamei Apunba Nupi Lup, a body of women from Singjamei area, today staged protest against the excess by the RAF. At Moirangkhom too large number of women folk stage protest against the irresponsible action of the Central forces.
Yesterday night the RAF allegedly fires rounds of tear gas shells and mock bombs and assaulted the people of the area.
Speaking to the media, representatives of Singjamei Apunba Nupi Lup, Sougrakpam Sumati said that the women of Singjamei area have resolved to boycott RAF. She denounced the act of the RAF saying that such an act will only provoke the people of the state.
“These security forces who are supposed to protect the people of the state are harassing the people of the valley area”, Sumati said and added that they are allowing the armed Kuki militants to attack the civilian villagers at the periphery.
Sumati further said that the women folk will not remain silent about the atrocity committed by the security forces.
At the other hand, a large number of women folk staged protests against the excess by RAF at Moirangkhom. The protestors condemned the destruction of vehicles by the RAF personnel and also the pelting of stones towards the residents. A boy was nearly hurt after a stone pelted by the RAF falls near his head while sleeping on his bed, a woman protestor said and questioned the reason for deploying a large number of Central forces in the state.
