The Families of the Involuntarily Disappeared’s Association, Manipur (FIDAM) and Manipur Peoples Party (MPP) demanded the Congress government to disclose the truth about the eight skeletons which were found last Friday from the campus of former Tombisana High School.
Addressing a press conference today at its party office located near Polo ground, Imphal, President, Manipur People’s Party, N. Sobhakiran condemning the recent recovery of eight skeletons from the pitch of Tombisana High School near old Assembly slammed the Congress Government that the government is sponsored by RAW government and the government sponsors some RAW groups which is leading to frequent blasts and other crimes in the state. The party President further added that Tombisana High School was an old High School which has been used as a base camp by various security forces such as Central Reserved Police Forces, Manipur Police Commandos and the recovery of the eight human skeletons means the government gave permission to hold the mass grave at the pitch of the school. He demanded the Congress Government led by Chief Minister, O. Ibobi to reveal the whereabouts of the eight human skeletons within seven days and if the government fails to do so the party (MPP) will send a memorandum to the National Human Rights Commission and also appeal the CBI to look into the matter.
On the other hand, The Families of the Involuntarily Disappeared’s Association, Manipur (FIDAM) has also submitted a memorandum today to the Chief Minister of Manipur with various demands; to immediately halt any further digging of the former Tombisana High School campus and to seal off the premise from any unauthorised persons, to immediately constitute a High level commission of Inquiry, headed by a retired Judge, consisting of competent experts in various related fields and to systematically excavate the premise to collect any further evidence, to systematically examine the skull and skeleton remains, verifying with DNA profiling of families whose loved ones have ‘disappeared’ during the said time period and to initiate criminal proceedings if any foul play is found.
Speaking to media persons in a press conference today at the office of HRD, Kwakeithel, Gen, Secretary (FIDAM) Md. Baniyamin said as suggested by the initial expert opinion, the skulls and skeletons would have been buried for around 17 to 40 years, the time period roughly coincides with the period when the phenomena of ‘enforced disappeared’ was endemic in Manipur. He added that FIDAM believes the remains of skeletons and skulls may belong to those who disappeared in the hands of security forces.
