Kuldiep Singh, Security Advisor to the Chief Minister, has announced that the police department is taking the situation very seriously responding to alarming inputs of large number of well trained Kuki militants who have infiltrated in Manipur, During a media briefing today, Kuldiep Singh addressed the government’s perceived inaction in the ongoing crisis, highlighting a proactive approach to the escalating violence, which has intensified since September 1.
He has revealed that a Strategic Operation Group meeting was convened on September 18, bringing together top officials from various security agencies, including the Army, Assam Rifles, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), and state police. The meeting focused on assessing and addressing the state’s security concerns. As a result of these discussions, border security forces, particularly the Assam Rifles, have been placed on high alert along the Indo-Myanmar border, specifically in the districts of Pherzawl, Churachandpur, and Kamjong.
He states that inputs which are now circulated indicate that around 900 Kuki militants have reportedly infiltrated Manipur in small teams and are planning attacks, with September 28 cited as the planned date of attack.
Security forces are particularly concerned about the areas where the presence of license guns and explosives in areas where construction activities are underway. He has emphasized that security measures has accounted for the transportation of large rockets—measuring 9 to 10 feet in length and weighing approximately 30 kg—requiring vehicles for mobility.
To counter potential threats effectively, security measures have been significantly reinforced. The authorities have reported the destruction of numerous bunkers used by militants. Additionally, the security forces have deployed advanced anti-drone systems, He anti-drone guns, and jammers to mitigate the risk of aerial surveillance and attacks. He noted that so far, 15 to 17 drones have been successfully jammed, indicating proactive measures to disrupt militant operations.
During security checks in vulnerable areas, law enforcement has also recovered seven improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The security forces are actively buffing up security in identified high-risk areas, implementing strategies to prevent further escalation of violence. He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens in Manipur and called for vigilance among local communities to assist in maintaining peace.
