Amidst opposition from section of people to the acquisition of land at Yaithibi Loukon, this recent decision of the Papal villagers is going to add another headache to the state government with rumours already spreading about the possibility of shifting the proposed National Sports University to other state.
In a press meet held today at Manipur Press Club, Dorensana, president of 43 Papal Loukol Kanba Lup (Thongkhong) said that a few days back some people who claimed themselves to be the workers of local MLA of Wangjing Tentha, Paonam Brojen came at Papal village and collected signatures of some villagers seeking their consent to use the land of Papal Loukol for allotment of land to the villagers of Langthabal Khunou, a village which is going to be affected by Sports University. He said that the persons promised the villagers to give employment and a sum of Rs. 3 lakhs to the villagers for the said land.
Dorensana said that 43 Papal Loukol is a fertile and highly valuable land. Besides, the land is the livelihood for a huge number of people. He further said that 43 Papal Loukol Kanba Lup cannot accept the proposal of using the land of the village for resettling the villagers from anywhere.
