“Efforts will be made to upgrade RIMS to AIIMS standard or convert into a Deemed University”. The statement was made by Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare J P Nadda during the foundation- stone laying ceremony for different blocks of RIMS at a cost of 202 crores. The union minister also said that there is no dearth of funds and that the proposed blocks which include a Casualty Block, Community & Forensic Medicine Block, Maternity Ward Block, and an Undergraduate Hostel Block will be completed within two years. An inspection tour of the Casualty, ICU, Operation Theater, Special Ward, Radiotherapy Department etc. were also carried out where the union minister interacted with the patients and the staffs. MP Dr T Meinya, MP Thangso Baite, MLA Kh Joykishan, MLA Th Bishworjit and BJP Manipur Pradesh General Secrtary Ashwinikmar also accompanied the visiting dignitary on his inspection tour. Afterwards, a program was held at the Jubilee Hall of RIMS where Joint Secretary (NE Div.) Ministry of Health & Family Welfare K C Samaria, Director (RIMS) Prof. S Rita and Medical Superintendent Prof. M Amuba were also present. A memorandum containing suggestions and requirements for improvement of RIMS was also submitted to the Union Minister by a group of representatives including Prof L Ranjit from the faculty, Teachers and Medical Officer’s Association Vice President Prof Nandabir, Secretary Prof Suresh Roy, L John of Teaching association of College of Nursing, Non Teaching & Employee’s Welfare Association Vice President Ranbir. Addressing the gathering, J P Nadda said that he will personally overlook the administrative, fund utilization and any other initiative to develop and modernize RIMS, and further assured that the pending cases and issues will be addressed at the shortest period possible and bridge the gap in implementation of activities.
