Newspaper hawkers to stop distribution of newspaper in protest against arrest of Jiten

Imphal July 20: In protest against the torture and arrest of Thongbam Jiten alias Tomba, s/o of (L) Thongbam Mangoljao, The All Manipur Newspapers’ Sales and Distributors’ Association today decided to stop distributing newspapers in the state on 21st July, 2014. The decision was made today during a meeting of the association. The association said that the torture and arrest of Jiten creates a fear psychosis to all the newspaper distributors working in the state. It also demanded immediate and unconditional release of Jiten. Meanwhile locals of Kakwa Lamdaibuing today staged a sit-in-protest against the arrest and false allegation against Jiten after arresting him.It may be mentioned that Thongbam Jiten was arrested by the personnel of 40 Assam Rifles while he was returning to home after distributing newspapers at Lilong area. He was alleged of possessing arms and demand notes.
