AR seizes tobacco products

Imphal July 20: A mobile frisking team of 20 Assam Riffles F Company posted at Bongyang seized tobacco products including Zarda and Pan Masala from three persons.

Sources said that the tobacco products were transported by three persons towards the border town, Moreh in three vehicles including a Maruti 800 and two Vans.

It is said that personnel of 20 Assam Rifles conduct a mobile frisking and checking in front of their Bongyang Post under the instruction of Post Commander Maj. Harsh W. Pandey after getting information that some people are trying to transport contraband items from Imphal to Moreh on the 18th of July 2014. At around 2.40 three suspicious vehicles reached the spot where the personnel of 20 AR conducts frisking. The contraband tobacco products were recovered from the vehicles when the personnel check them. The package of the contraband items contained 600 pieces of Zarda 350, 208 pieces Dilbag Pan Masal and 104 pieces of Talab. The three persons who have been apprehended with the tobacco products have been identified as Khanglal Haokip (32), s/o Senkholun Haokip of More, Thokenom Guna (28), S/o Jadumani of Kanglatombi and L. Raghu (42) s/o Heramot of Hiyangthang Bazar. The seized items along with the three apprehended persons have been handed over to Food Safety  Officer, Chandel.
