Imphal, April 9:

The D.M. College Alumni Association extended a warm and rousing welcome to Professor W. Chandbabu, the newly appointed Vice Chancellor of Dhanamanjuri University (DMU), Manipur, during a felicitation ceremony held today at the DMU Library Building.
Professor Chandbabu, who is an alumnus of D.M. College, described his return to the university in an emotional tone, calling it a “homecoming.” Reflecting on his student days, he shared, “Returning here to this university is more like coming home for me. I spent over five years in the boys’ hostel of D.M. College and was one of those students who rarely returned home.”
During his address, the Vice Chancellor expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Alumni Association for their recognition and support. He reiterated his commitment to transforming DMU into one of the most prominent and globally recognized universities. “I assure you all that I will give my best to raise Dhanamanjuri University to the highest level of excellence,” he stated.
Highlighting the significant role alumni can play in the development of the university, Professor Chandbabu discussed how alumni contributions are crucial in the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) evaluation process. “NAAC awards a score out of 4 points for alumni funding. If alumni contribute Rs.1 crore over five years, the institution can secure a perfect score of 4 on this metric. Even Rs. 50 lakhs over the same period ensures a score of 3,” he explained.
He further informed that DMU comprises 22 departments, and raising at least Rs. 5 crore in five years through coordinated efforts is a feasible goal. The affiliated colleges and their respective alumni bodies could also contribute significantly. He encouraged the alumni to take an active role, noting that they could collectively decide on how the funds would be utilized to enhance academic and research activities.
The event was attended by members of the Alumni Association, faculty members, and well-wishers who welcomed the new Vice Chancellor with optimism and enthusiasm.
