Imphal, April 9:

MLA Vungzagin Valte of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, who was severely injured in a mob attack during the 2023 ethnic violence in Manipur, arrived in Mizoram today from Delhi, marking his first return to the Northeast after a year of treatment and recovery. He is scheduled to proceed to Manipur by chopper. Mention may be made that the Manipur State Legislative Assembly is under animated suspension under President Rule.
According to a report reaching here, Valte was officially received by MLA Er. Ginzalal, Adviser to the Chief Minister of Mizoram (Technical), on behalf of the Mizoram government at Lengpui Airport.
The Mizo Students’ Organization organized a warm reception program at the airport, extending support and solidarity to the veteran leader.
Talking to reporters at Lengpui Airport, Valte shared that he received very limited financial assistance from the state of Manipur during his prolonged treatment in Delhi, despite the severity of his condition.
He further condemned former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, stating that “he has been against the Zo community right from the beginning.”
Delivering his first public message since the attack, Valte urged unity among the ethnic Zo people, stating, “Since we are all descendants of the Zo community, we should come together in many forms.”
Valte, who represented Thanlon constituency, Manipur was attacked on May 4, 2023, in Imphal, shortly after attending a meeting with the Chief Minister. The assault left him with multiple injuries and partial paralysis, forcing his relocation to Delhi for months of intensive medical care.
