As an initiative to create awareness about the negative impact of climate change on indigenous people, the North East Dialogue Forum is organizing   an event at Khasi National Durbar Hall, Mawkhar at Meghalaya on Thursday, September 26, in connection with the fourth death Anniversary of late Bah Hopingstone Lyngdoh.
A statement of the NE Dialogue Forum said that Global Climate Strike begin from today and will continue till September 27, while some will go on till September 28 and 29.
The statement said that Human induced climate change has become a climate crisis requiring climate action on an emergency footing otherwise imminent  catastrophe consequences  is knocking at the door and actually has started gate-crashing almost everywhere.
“No-one can claim exception from contributing towards accelerated climate change and its negative and devastating impact. Greta Thunberg a 16 year old teenager from Sweden started her protest and strike more than a year back. Valentina Elangbam, a nine year old from Kakching District, Manipur has become the Green Ambassador of her State as she had cried inconsolable when on returning from school one afternoon, she found that four of the trees she had planted four years earlier and nursed like her own brothers, have been cut down.
“In our own measure, beginning from our own backyard, we have to be engaged conscientiously in mitigating climate change” the  NE Dialogue Forum statement said.
