MU Guest Lecturers deny discrimination allegations by IDP students

Guest lecturers of the Department of Vocational Studies and Skill Development (DVSSD), Manipur University, have issued a clarification denying allegations of discrimination and hostile behavior made by Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) students. The clarification follows renewed tensions on campus after IDP students reportedly locked the Head of Department’s room for the second time in protest against the conduct of a visiting faculty member.
In their joint statement, the guest lecturers acknowledged the sensitivity surrounding the admission of an IDP candidate to the 1st Semester M.Voc. (Tourism and Hospitality Management) programme but rejected claims of deliberate bias or mistreatment. They reiterated their commitment to fairness, inclusivity, and academic integrity in all departmental affairs.
Expressing concern over the disruptions, the lecturers said repeated room lockdowns have created a sense of insecurity among faculty members and hindered the smooth functioning of classes and administrative duties. They urged students to refrain from such actions and instead pursue issues through institutional dialogue.
The statement appealed to the university authorities to intervene promptly, ensure campus safety, and facilitate dialogue between both sides to restore normalcy within the department.
The Manipur University administration has not yet issued an official response to the incident.
