Imphal, May 25:

The United Committee Manipur submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Manipur demanding the construction of statue of Maharaja Gambhir Singh at Rajbhari, Sylhet, Bangladesh, Guest House at Raj Bad, Sylhet, Bangladesh, and a museum for Maharaja Marjit at Kamalganj, Moulvi Bazar, Bangladesh.
The UCM emphasized Maharaja Gambhir Singh’s legacy as a hero of Manipur, noting his victory over Burmese forces that ended the seven-year devastation of Manipur (Chahi Taret Khuntakpa). The 9th January is observed as Chahi Taret Khuntakpa Ningsing Numit at the Memorial Complex of Maharaj Gambhir Singh every year.
A 38-member team from UCM visited Bangladesh from May 10 to May 20, 2024, to connect with the Meitei community there, who have been residing in Bangladesh since Chahi Taret Khuntakpa. This visit, known as Eegi Khongul Liba, highlighted the efforts of Maharaja Gambhir Singh and his brothers, Maharaja Chourjit and Maharaja Marjit, in fighting the Burmese forces(Awa Lanmee).
The UCM has urged the CM to reconstruct the Rajbhari (Konung) of Maharaja Gambhir Singh and Maharaja Marjit in Bangladesh as a tribute to their historical significance.
