All India Trade Union Congress, Manipur, has organized an inaugural function for the mass campaign aiming for an early settlement of the prevailing crisis in Manipur through political solutions today at the Manipur Press Club in Imphal. In the program, AITUC General Secretary, L Sotinkumar demanded an early settlement of the ongoing crisis and ethnic conflict in Manipur. He stated that due to a lack of political will, there has been no settlement, and now we have more than 60,000 displaced individuals. ‘We need a political dialogue now,’ he stated.
In response to the prolonged restriction of movement in Manipur, the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Manipur, pressed for the immediate establishment of a Highway Protection Force on Tuesday, emphasizing that the Meetei community has been grappling with a disrupted lifeline, attributing the situation to aggression by Kuki militants. More than 1,000 people, mostly drivers, have been killed on this highway.
Regarding the economy of Manipur, he said that private employee wages should be increased to ¹ 26,000. These employees, including drivers, people who work in shops and establishments, and journalists in the media, are paid very little. It should be increased by a decision of the labor department. ‘If Kerala can do it, we can also do it.’ Their demands also include properly implemented of NREGA scheme and its extension to urban areas as well.
Moreover, he stated that “privatization of public sectors, even the privatization of Loktak, are happening. We are all opposed to it.”
