MLA Sheikh Noorul Hassan of Kshetrigao Assembly Constituency has attributed the recent floods affecting large sections of his constituency to years of neglect by previous representatives. Speaking to media today, he stated that the constituency experienced two major floods in 2025, both caused by the deteriorating condition of the Iril and Kongba river embankments.
“I, along with officials from the Water Resources Department, have conducted multiple surveys of the embankments,” Hassan said, emphasizing the urgency of structural intervention. He proposed the construction of retaining walls along both rivers as a permanent solution and confirmed that a detailed proposal has already been submitted to the Governor for immediate implementation.
Addressing criticism from certain quarters, Hassan dismissed allegations that he was responsible for the flooding, calling them baseless and politically motivated. “Those spreading lies should stop the blame game,” he asserted.
The MLA also criticized the Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (CAF & PD) Department for allegedly siding with fair price shop agents who have halted the distribution of PDS rice in the constituency for the past two months. He urged the department to take corrective measures to ensure food security for affected residents.
