Imphal, Sept 2:
MLA Rajkumar Imo Singh has called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah to urgently intervene in the escalating violence in Manipur. Rajkumar Imo Singh attributed the recent deaths of two individuals, including an innocent woman, and injuries to children and security forces, to acts of terror by illegal armed militants. He emphasized that these attacks occurred immediately after a so-called Peace Rally was held across the state.
Rajkumar Imo Singh stated that the violence in Manipur is not merely an ethnic conflict but an orchestrated campaign by insurgent groups against the state, driven by a broader agenda. He expressed frustration that, despite the conflict dragging on for over 15 months, efforts have not shifted towards political dialogue for a peaceful resolution. Instead, certain groups seem intent on prolonging the violence for their own benefit.
He criticized the effectiveness of the approximately 60,000 central forces stationed in Manipur, arguing that their presence has not brought peace. Rajkumar Imo Singh suggested that if these forces cannot halt the violence, they should be withdrawn, allowing state forces to take charge. He welcomed the removal of certain Assam Rifles units that were uncooperative but insisted that more action is needed.
Rajkumar Imo Singh also urged the Union Home Ministry to abrogate the Suspension of Operations (SOO) agreement with militant groups that have violated its terms, citing a resolution by the Manipur Assembly. He called for an investigation into the illegal arms supply fueling the violence and demanded that the unified command be handed over to the state government to restore peace.
The MLA also stressed the urgency of initiating political dialogue to achieve a permanent solution and called for immediate action to halt the violence in Manipur.
