Militants today triggered three improvise explosive devices (IEDs) at Thangbung Minnou Village under Moreh police station in Chandel district along the Indo-Myanmar border at around 6.30 am today morning. About 5 hours later, i.e. at around 10.50 am another low intensity bomb blasted in the heart of Imphal city inside a crematorium at the bank of Naga River at Nagamapal. The blasts is the second of its kind during the last 48 hours probably triggered by militants as an attempt to sabotage security measures being taken up ahead of the Indian Republic Day.
The blast that took place inside the crematorium at Nagamapal in Imphal city created a crater with diameter of around one and half feet. However, there were no reports of human casualty as no one was present inside. A public toilet ‘Sulab’ is located near the blast site and the surrounding of the crematorium used to be crowded with park vehicles and street vendors however the impact of the blast failed to reach beyond the fencing area of the crematorium.
As soon as the bomb blasted, high ranking police officials including DIG Range I, IK Muivah, SP Imphal West, Dr. AK Jhaljit, Addl SP (OPS) Th. Bikramjit and City Police OC M. Sudhir rushed at the blast site.
According to bomb experts of Manipur Police Bomb Squad, the IED which was blasted this morning did not have splinters and was of the same kind with the one which was blasted yesterday morning at Khurai Lamlong near a garbage dumping site in Imphal East.
On the other hand, the serial blasts occurred at Thangbung Minnou Village under Moreh police station in Chandel district along the Indo-Myanmar border at around 6.30 am today morning seemed to have been plan for attacked to security force as the site is the water point of 9 AR, F-Coy. However, there was no report of any human casualty.
