Manipur celebrated 43rd Statehood day at the Banquet Hall of the First Manipur Rifle Batalion today. In his message Governor of Manipur, Dr KK Paul said that Manipur attained statehood 43 years ago on January 21, 1972 and a long cherished dream of the people of Manipur was fulfilled.
Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam and other MLAs, and Minister attended the function.
Conveying his warm greetings and best wishes to the people of Manipur on the occasion, the Governor said, Manipur became equal partners with other states in the country in building a modern India and along with it came the responsibilities and opportunities.
Though the state has made rapid strides in the field of development and sustained effort is being made to keep pace with the rest of the country, it is still lagging behind and there is need of a renewed effort for the welfare of its citizens and the growth and development must be based on equity where all citizens of the State irrespective of caste, creed or religion feel the sense of belonging to an egalitarian society, the mesage added.
The Governor also wished for the people to work unitedly and relentlessly to make Manipur a prosperous state.Like Manipur- Tripura and Meghalaya also celebrating statehood day today.The erstwhile princely states of Tripura and Manipur were merged with India in October 1949 and became full-fledged states Jan 21, 1972. Meghalaya was a part of Assam before becoming a full-fledged state under the North Eastern Region (Re-Organisation) Act, 1971.
