Meitei group criticizes Delhi police for allowing Kuki Zo rally

IT News
Imphal, Sept 1:

The Meitei Heritage Welfare Foundation has expressed strong criticism towards the Delhi Police for allowing the Kuki Zo community to hold a protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on August 31. The foundation had previously requested that permission for the rally be denied, citing concerns that it was “anti-national.”
In a press release, the foundation warned that the event could be exploited by “anti-India forces” targeting the country, further aggravating the crisis in Manipur. The organisation urged both the Delhi Police and the Ministry of Home Affairs to take similar concerns seriously in the future, ensuring that protests that could potentially harm the country’s image are not permitted.
The foundation highlighted the sensitivity of the current situation in Manipur, emphasizing that they had high expectations from the central authorities and responsible agencies like the Delhi Police to make careful decisions during such times.
The Kuki Students’ Organisation held a peaceful rally on August 31 from Keithelmanbi Military Colony to the Kangpokpi District Headquarters in Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi district, without any reported incidents. Despite this, the Meitei Heritage Welfare Foundation condemned the rally, expressing disappointment that the Delhi Police granted permission despite earlier assurances that the protest would not be allowed.
The foundation also stated that it had requested the Delhi Police to thoroughly investigate the nature of the protest and verify the rally’s purpose. Three Delhi-based Meitei civil society organizations—Meitei Heritage Society, Delhi Manipuri Society, and Ningols United Progressive Initiative—submitted documentary evidence in a joint application to the Delhi Police, reinforcing their concerns.
