Imphal, April 5:
The Manipur Youth League (MAYOL) persisted in its efforts to promote the “Vote for National Regeneration” campaign by hosting public meetings across various locations in Imphal West today. Among the venues included Samurou Awang Leikai, Meijrao Keithel, and Wangoi Chongtham Leikai.
During these gatherings, Mayengbam Premananda, the publicity secretary, conveyed several crucial messages aimed at fostering a fair and transparent electoral process:
Refraining from Accepting Bribes: Voters were urged to resist the allure of accepting bribes from political candidates. The prevalence of this practice during elections undermines the integrity of the democratic process, with candidates offering monetary or material incentives in exchange for votes.
Avoiding Participation in Poll Festivities: MAYOL advocated for people to abstain from engaging in poll-related festivities, such as feasts, election rallies, and road-shows. These events often serve as platforms for candidates to sway voters and garner support, potentially influencing the outcome of the election.
Stopping Proxy Voting: Proxy voting, where an individual casts a vote on behalf of another, poses a threat to the democratic process. MAYOL emphasized the necessity of ending this practice to ensure that each vote is legitimately cast by the rightful individual.
Eradicating the Use of Muscle Power: The utilization of muscle power, characterized by coercion and intimidation tactics, to influence voters remains a significant issue in elections. MAYOL expressed its commitment to eradicating this trend, enabling voters to freely exercise their right to choose without fear or pressure.
Upholding the Right to Vote: Finally, the campaign stressed the paramount importance of upholding one’s right to vote. Each citizen’s vote plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of the nation, and it is incumbent upon all to exercise this right responsibly and independently, without external influence.
