The Manipur Semgat Sagatpa Lup (MASSAL) has raised serious concern over reports of some schools allegedly overcharging students for Class 10 examination form fill-up beyond the fee structure fixed by the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BOSEM). The organisation has warned schools to immediately stop the practice.
In a press statement, Chandam Mongyamba, Convenor of the MASSAL Student Wing, said that educational institutions must not commercialise education by selling books, notebooks and uniforms to students at inflated rates. He urged that such practices be discontinued starting from the academic session of 2026.
MASSAL expressed concern that people across the state are already facing severe financial hardship due to the ongoing crisis, and additional burdens imposed by schools would worsen their situation. The student wing also issued a warning to OCs, AOCs, SIs and invigilators of examination centres, urging them not to encourage or facilitate unfair means during examinations.
MASSAL stated that it will closely monitor the situation and take further steps if required to safeguard the interests of students and parents.
