Mass signature campaign launched against alleged illegal activities by Kuki-based organisations

A mass signature campaign was launched at Lamlong Ema Keithel in Imphal East today against what organisers described as unlawful activities by organisations allegedly based within the Kuki community, social activist Malem Thongam said.
The campaign follows a press statement issued by the Committee on Tribal Unity on December 17, 2025, which raised concerns over warnings allegedly issued against Malem Thongam in connection with his Cycling for Manipur Peace initiative while passing through Kangpokpi district. It was stated that despite complaints lodged at Kangpokpi Police Station with reference to the Heingang Police, no action has been taken so far against those involved.
Addressing the gathering, Malem Thongam said certain organisations, including the Committee on Tribal Unity, have repeatedly engaged in activities that are not permitted under the law, even as the matter remains under consideration before the Supreme Court. He said such actions must be restrained strictly in accordance with the law to ensure uninterrupted public movement along national highways in the state.
The signature campaign was supported by Lamlong Keithel Phambi Apunba Nupi Lup, Coordinating Committee Khurai, Nongpok Leingak Apunba Nupi Lup, Koirengei Bazar Meira Paibi, Leishna Korengei Manung Meira Paibi and Yaipha Nupi Lup Maibakhul, along with residents from nearby localities.
Malem Thongam appealed to the public across Manipur to participate collectively in the campaign, stating that it would be conducted at various locations across the state until May 1.
