Manipuri Diaspora presents evidence and concerns to Indian High Commission

Imphal, July 26:

A delegation from the European Manipuri Association (EMA) met with the Minister of Coordination at the Indian High Commission to address prolonged Manipur Violence. The meeting took place in London on Wednesday. The team submitted a memorandum expressing the deep concern and frustration of the Manipuri diaspora in the UK and Europe over the Indian government’s failure to resolve the more than 14-month-old violence in Manipur.
During the meeting, the EMA representatives presented several documents and discussed various aspects of the conflict. They submitted official government documents from the 1960s concerning Kuki refugees and expressed their dismay that many of these individuals not only enjoy constitutional protections under Scheduled Tribe (ST) benefits but are also allegedly leading efforts to divide Manipur. They cited Thanglianpao Guite, a former Myanmar MP and current leader of the Zomi Revolutionary Army (ZRA), as an example.
The team handed over a copy of the FIR against Uday Reddy, also known as Kautilya3, a prominent Wikipedia user. They urged the Indian High Commission to address the issue of disinformation, stressing that such false information could incite further violence among people of Indian origin.
The discussion touched on perceptions that some security agencies are supporting one side of the conflict. The EMA representatives referred to a recent statement by PK Mishra, former Additional Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF), who suggested that removing a particular central security force from Manipur might help resolve the conflict.
The delegation emphasized the need to prioritize the fencing of the Indo-Myanmar border to enhance internal security and protect against ongoing turmoil in neighboring Myanmar, which could persist for decades.
The Minister of Coordination encouraged the EMA representatives to engage in dialogue with all communities to build confidence and promote peace and harmony in the state. While the visiting team agreed with this approach, they also highlighted the practical difficulties communities face when advocating for peace, particularly due to opposition from those leading the conflict.
