Imphal, July 26:
The Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS), Manipur, has raised allegations of a conspiracy behind the attack at Borobekra, implicating the Assam Rifles (AR) deployed in the area.
In a concerning incident that has escalated tensions in Manipur, a house belonging to a Meitei resident named Heikrujam Maniton was reportedly set on fire in Borobekra Sub-Division of Jiribam District. The incident took place just 500 meters from the Borobekra Police Station.
The statement of FOCS reads “the arson occurred in a zone patrolled by the Assam Rifles,” raising accusations that the paramilitary forces might have conspired to target the Meitei community. According to FOCS, “this incident is part of a larger scheme of violence and intimidation against Meitei residents in the region.”
The Federation has demanded stronger security measures to protect the Meitei community. Local law enforcement agencies, including the district and sub-divisional police, have been criticized by FOCS for their perceived inaction. Allegations of political pressure hindering police response have also been raised. FOCS has urged the District Administration to deploy state forces by removing to provide adequate security to the affected areas so that IDPs can return.
