The National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell of Manipur University, Canchipur, organized a special observance today to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and to mark the Poshan Pakhwada, under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.
The event was held at 8:00 AM in the Centenary Hall of Manipur University under the supervision of Prof. N. Lokendra Singh, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of the university. The programme was graced by eminent personalities including Prof. Ch. Ibohal Singh, Dean of Students’ Welfare, Manipur University as Chief Guest; Dr. Y. Premananda Singh, Head of the Department of Law, as Guest of Honour; Prof. S. Opendra Singh, Head of the Department of Statistics, and Dr. Laishram Santosh Singh, NSS Programme Coordinator, who presided over the event.
The programme began with the NSS song and a floral tribute to the portrait of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Dr. Dalip, Programme Officer of NSS Unit IV, extended a warm welcome to the dignitaries, officers, and volunteers.
In his keynote address, Dr. Y. Premananda Singh stressed the timeless relevance of Dr. Ambedkar’s vision and the foundational role of the Indian Constitution in safeguarding justice, equality, and liberty. Prof. S. Opendra Singh elaborated on the alignment between NSS values and Ambedkar’s ideals, describing NSS as a vital platform for nurturing leadership and social responsibility among students.
Chief Guest Prof. Ch. Ibohal Singh highlighted the profound social impact of Dr. Ambedkar’s work and called upon all to uphold the values enshrined in the Constitution. He referred to the event as a tribute to Dr. Ambedkar’s legacy as the “Father of the Indian Constitution.”
In his presidential remarks, Dr. Laishram Santosh Singh informed that the event was preponed from April 14 to April 12 to accommodate the celebration of Cheiraoba, an important traditional festival in Manipur. He encouraged NSS volunteers to actively engage in campus beautification and waste management as a practical expression of NSS values.
The event concluded with closing remarks by Dr. H. Suraj Singh, Programme Officer of NSS Unit III.
