Manipur PCC chief moves High Court against Governor’s actions

Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president K. Meghachandra has filed a writ petition in the High Court of Manipur challenging actions of Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, alleging unconstitutional exercise of powers under Article 174(1) of the Constitution. The petition also seeks dissolution of the remainder of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly under Article 174(2).
Filed on January 29, the petition requests the Chief Justice to consider the matter through an appropriate Division Bench. Senior Advocate N. Bhupendra Meitei represents the petitioner, while Deputy Solicitor General Kh. Samarjit, assisted by N. Nongdamba, appears for the Union of India. The Manipur government is represented by Advocate General Lenin Hijam and Deputy Government Advocate O. Raran Kumar.
The court noted that the case involves interpretation of Article 174 and has referred it to Chief Justice A. Guneshwar Sharma for placement before a Division Bench. No notices have been issued to respondents yet, and the registry has been instructed to present the file to the Chief Justice for further administrative orders regarding listing.
