Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of Manipur, in coordination with the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), have expressed deep anguish over the continued silence of the State administration, including the Governor, on the resettlement of displaced citizens. Despite multiple memoranda and reminders submitted over the past months, no written assurance, progress report, or concrete implementation plan has been communicated to the affected families.
The deadline promised by the State Government for the resettlement of displaced citizens has long expired, yet thousands of IDPs continue to live in relief camps under conditions of uncertainty, fear, and indignity. The repeated non-response from Lok Bhavan and State authorities has forced displaced communities to conclude that their constitutional grievances are being deliberately ignored.
In response, the IDPs and COCOMI have announced a peaceful march to Lok Bhavan (Raj Bhavan) on 12 January 2026, demanding a direct and accountable reply from the Governor on the status, progress, and timeline of the resettlement plan.
The collective action, they said, is not a demand for privileges but an assertion of constitutional rights—safety, rehabilitation, and dignity for citizens displaced within their own state. The organisers emphasized that the march will remain lawful, democratic, and non-violent, while cautioning that the responsibility for any further distress or escalation due to continued inaction will rest with the State administration.
The IDPs and COCOMI have called upon the Governor to urgently break the silence and present a time-bound, written resettlement roadmap, warning that peace in Manipur cannot be sustained without justice, accountability, and transparency in governance.
