The Department of Horticulture & Soil Conservation, Government of Manipur, successfully launched the “Skilling & Livelihood Programme” today at the City Convention Centre in Imphal. The event, graced by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh as the Chief Guest, has marked a step towards empowering the youth of Manipur with innovative skills and livelihood opportunities.
The event commenced with a series of addresses, including a keynote speech, followed by the official launch of various skilling and livelihood initiatives.
The programme’s technical session featured discussions on a range of topics aimed at providing youths with new livelihood opportunities. Dr. Ch. Nishita Devi spoke on the benefits of animal husbandry for reviving livelihood activities, while Sapam Jiten Singh explored the scope of fish farming as an income source. Dina Oinam discussed methods of composting and vermicomposting, and R.K. Binita Devi highlighted mushroom cultivation as a means of income generation for unemployed youths. The session concluded with Hanjabam Shubhra Devi’s presentation on empowering youths through food processing in the state, followed by an interaction and discussion segment.
Addressing the audience, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh said we need expert opinions and input from people who are knowledgeable. Regarding the ongoing conflict, he has highlighted the need for resilience and innovative approaches to livelihood, especially in challenging times. He acknowledged the prevailing discontent among the people despite improvements in the situation, attributing it to a lack of understanding about the origins of the conflict, which began with migration issues.
