Manipur Congress joins in the ‘Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod’ Mega Rally organized in New Delhi

The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee joined the mega rally titled “Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod” in Ramleela Maidan, New Delhi, today demanding a fresh mandate for Manipur amidst the continuing political and humanitarian crisis in the state.
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president Keisham Meghachandra Singh said that the rally is being organized with the purpose of highlighting what he described as the Bharatiya Janata Party’s complete failure in providing governance in Manipur during the past three years. Stating that leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party have been repeatedly meeting central leaders, Keisham Meghachandra stated that another round of meetings reportedly involving all Bharatiya Janata Party legislators and their allies are likely to be held in New Delhi.
Keisham Meghachandra Singh said despite its claimed required numbers, the Bharatiya Janata Party has failed to form a stable government in Manipur, thereby showing the party’s inability to manage the affairs of state. He said law and order has collapsed while more than sixty thousand displaced people continue to live in relief camps without any clear roadmap for rehabilitation and return.
The Manipur Congress chief said that the prolonged political uncertainty has contributed to deepening public suffering and further deteriorated the social tensions. He also accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of adopting policies and programs that have caused divisions among different communities in the state, including the Meitei and Kuki communities, and weakened social harmony.
According to Keisham Meghachandra Singh, the unabated political crisis, coupled with the humanitarian situation, reflects a total breakdown of governance. He said that repeated political manoeuvring in New Delhi miserably failed to address the ground realities in Manipur and instead prolonged instability.
The Congress leader said that in the given situation, his party is seeking dissolution of the Manipur Legislative Assembly and a fresh mandate from the people. He asserted allowing the people to decide through a new election is the most democratic and viable option to restore political stability and restore public confidence in the state.
