Manipur Central Jail warder arrested for facilitating illegal mobile use by inmates

A warder posted at Manipur Central Jail has been arrested for allegedly enabling inmates, including those booked under stringent laws, to use mobile phones illegally from inside the prison, police said on Thursday.
The accused, identified as Sahid Shah (35) of Kairang Mayai Leikai, was taken into custody on Wednesday following an internal inquiry into unauthorised communication within the jail premises.
According to investigators, Shah allegedly provided inmates access to mobile handsets and SIM cards, allowing them to make and receive calls in violation of prison regulations. Multiple mobile phones and SIM cards were recovered from his possession during the operation.
Preliminary investigation has also revealed suspected financial transactions linked to the activity, with payments reportedly made to the accused through UPI transfers, indicating a monetary exchange for facilitating the illegal communication.
