Noney, Nov 6:
The Luangchum Village Authority, representing the residents of Luangchum village, announced its full support for the bandh and blockade initiated by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) to protest the non-payment of bills under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) for the Noney District Block water supply scheme.
According to Guikamlak Kamei, Chairman of the Luangchum Village Authority, the implementation of the water supply scheme is a critical issue for the villagers, who have faced a persistent shortage of drinking water since the onset of the railway project in the area. He expressed disappointment that delays in the project, intended for public benefit, were being caused by the concerned authorities and company, which have yet to release the pending payments. Kamei urged the relevant departments and the company to settle the outstanding bills to enable the activation of the “Har Ghar Jal” scheme under the Jal Jeevan Mission, emphasizing that the initiative is vital for the entire village and risks structural damage if left incomplete.
The residents across the Noney district are anxiously awaiting the completion of the water supply project. The delays in pipeline connections and unsettled payments have created tension among villagers. With winter approaching, water scarcity remains a pressing concern, and the people of Noney district are hopeful for the swift completion of the project to meet their urgent water needs.
