Imphal, Jan 23:
The Longmai Village Authority has issued a clarification regarding the identity of Zillu Paite, formerly known as Zillu Golmei, to counter misinformation circulating on social media. Zillu, a member of the Rongmei (Kabui) Naga community, is a bona fide citizen of Longmai Village in Noney District.
According to the clarification, Zillu adopted the surname “Paite” after her marriage to the late T. James Paite, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officer who passed away 13 years ago. Following her husband’s death, she reconnected with her parental Rongmei Naga community.
The press release signed by Kasaigai Gangmei, Chairman of Longmai Village Authority further said, “On January 17, 2025, Zillu visited Kakching Khunou to meet her younger sister. During her visit, she was mistakenly identified as belonging to the Paite Tribe (Kuki-Zo community) by volunteers of the 59-unit Arambai Tenggol after a G-Pay transaction at a local shop. Upon verifying her identity as a member of the Rongmei Naga community and a resident of Longmai-3, Noney District, she was safely handed over to her family.”
The Longmai Village Authority expressed concern over false rumors spreading online, which misrepresent Zillu’s identity and risk heightening tensions between communities. They urged the public to refrain from sharing unverified information and called on community leaders and civil society organizations to actively counter misinformation and promote unity.
