Local clubs demand transparency on SDC suspension over false ILP permit allegations

IT News
Imphal, Dec 5:

Local clubs and organizations in the Mayang Imphal Bengoon area have demanded that the government publicly reveal the identity of the Sub-Divisional Collector (SDC) of the Imphal West DC office, who was suspended following allegations of issuing false Inner Line Permit (ILP) documents. The suspension was announced by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, but the lack of transparency has sparked concerns, with residents alleging the move is a diversionary tactic amidst the ongoing crisis in the state.
The issue arose after 29 non-local residents, reportedly holding forged ILP documents and Aadhar cards from Assam but suspected to be illegal immigrants from Bangladesh, were detained. During a press conference held by various local organizations, including the Joint Youth Development Committee, All Mayang Imphal Muslim Youth Development Organisation, and others, they demanded that the government not only disclose the name of the suspended SDC but also terminate him from his position if found guilty.
Chesam Achouba, president of the Joint Youth Development Committee, stated that while the people of Mayang Imphal Bengoon supported the detention of the 29 workers who violated ILP guidelines, many of the detainees had been living and working in the area for over five years. Achouba noted that these workers had undergone police verification multiple times and were previously allowed to continue working after validation of their ILP documents.
Achouba alleged that the recent detentions appear to be part of a “well-planned game” aimed at diverting attention from the ongoing crisis by accusing the Meitei Pangal community of harboring illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. He strongly opposed the deportation of the 29 detainees to Assam without thorough verification, emphasizing that the Chief Minister himself had stated they were suspected to be Bangladeshi nationals.
The Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) of Mayang Imphal Bengoon have called on the government to clarify its position. They urged transparency regarding the identity of the suspended officer and demanded robust action against those responsible for issuing fraudulent ILP documents. They reiterated their commitment to ensuring no workers are employed in the area without valid ILP permits.
