Litan Police and 16 AR rescue 2 persons from the jaw of death

Two persons including a driver were rescued by a team of state police and Assam Rifles from the jaw of death. The incident happened yesterday evening. According to report, a loaded 407 truck bearing registration number MN-01-6455 carrying fertilizer from Imphal to Ukhrul accidentally fall into a gorge of about 200 feet in depth when they were about one and a half kilometer away from Mahadeva area towards Imphal side at around 7 pm yesterday. The report added that the loaded truck was caught at a tree without falling on the ground and both the driver of the truck and another person probably the owner of the fertilizer stuck inside the vehicle. Villagers of the area watch the scene helplessly until a team of police led by Litan Police station OC N. Manikanta reached the spot at around 7.30 pm. The police team under the supervision of the OC N. Manikanta went down to the gorge using ropes and dramatically rescued the owner of the fertilizer identified as Ningmayung Ankang of Sanakeithel at around 9.30 pm. He was seriously wounded in the falls and was immediately rushed to JNIMS hospital. However, the driver of the truck could not be rescued at the moment as he was stuck in-between the steering and doors of the vehicles. OC Manikanta later called the CO of the 16 AR post located at Yainganpokpi to extent some assistant for rescuing the trapped driver. The AR major along with his team also arrived at the spot at around 10 pm and using the equipments the AR team along with the police team rescued the driver identified as MD Abir Khan (25) of Mayang Imphal Bengoon RIMS too by cutting the trapped bars. He was also immediately rushed to RIMS hospital and is presently undergoing treatment at RIMS ICU in critical condition.
