Land dispute triggers arson in Chomoukedima; Nagaland Deputy CM appeals for calm

A violent clash reportedly stemming from a land dispute between Angami and Kuki villagers broke out in Moava village under Medziphima sub-division in Chomoukedima district of Nagaland today, leaving several houses and vehicles torched.
Visuals from the area showed homes reduced to ashes, vehicles set ablaze and some overturned amid the unrest. The exact extent of property damage could not be immediately ascertained.
Additional contingents of the Nagaland Police have been deployed to the village to bring the situation under control. Authorities are monitoring the area to prevent further escalation.
Chomoukedima, located about 14 kilometres from Dimapur, is among the most densely populated districts in Nagaland after Dimapur and Kohima.
Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton expressed concern over the violence and arson in Moava village on the outskirts of Dimapur. In a post on X, he stated that any act disrupting peace and endangering lives and property is a serious matter. He appealed to all parties to remain calm, exercise restraint and allow lawful processes to address grievances.
Further details are awaited as security forces continue to maintain vigil in the affected area.
