Imphal, Nov 12:
Villages in Imphal East district came under fresh attack early this morning as Kuki militants resumed heavy firing in the areas of Thamnapokpi, Sabungkhok, and Sanasabi. Reports indicate that the attacks began at around 7 a.m., with militants targeting farmers and residents who have been under siege for four consecutive days, stretching from Yaingangpokpi to nearby areas.
According to sources, the violence escalated last night around 8:30 p.m. when Kuki militants began firing into villages, prompting a fierce response from security forces stationed in the area. The exchange of gunfire continued past midnight before eventually subsiding. However, as the situation grew increasingly tense, many residents fled their homes overnight, while some villagers remained in place, too fearful to attempt an escape.
This morning’s renewed attack has exacerbated villagers’ frustration with what they describe as the inadequate response by security forces. Local residents have expressed dissatisfaction with the security forces’ inability to prevent militant incursions, citing their ongoing exposure to violence. Many community members have raised concerns over the lack of decisive action to neutralize the militants, calling for stronger measures to protect civilians caught in the crossfire.
As of now, no casualties have been reported from the renewed attacks, but the situation remains tense, with villagers anxiously awaiting further support from authorities.
