Kuki militants launch another drone attack in Imphal East

IT News
Imphal, Sept 2:

In the early hours of the morning, armed Kuki militants launched a violent attack on Sinam village in the Khundrakpam Assembly Constituency, Imphal East district, just a day after a similar assault on Koutruk Village in Imphal West. According to sources, the militants used drones to drop bombs on security personnel’s bunkers, destroying three bunkers and damaging property belonging to the security forces.
The attack has intensified concerns about the effectiveness of existing security measures, particularly given that Assam Rifles personnel have been deployed on one side of the Wakan Hill range and in the Sanjenlok village area. Despite their presence, militants managed to penetrate the area and carry out the assault, raising questions about the capability of the security forces to protect the region.
A local villager expressed deep concern, stating that the recent attack had shattered the sense of security previously provided by local defense forces. The villagers had relied on assurances from the Assam Rifles for protection, but the Kuki militant attack has left them feeling vulnerable once again. “How long will we have to endure such violence?” the villager asked, urging the government to take immediate action to prevent further attacks.
This latest attack follows the Kuki militants’ alleged use of drones to drop bombs in the Koutruk, Kadangband, and Singda areas of Imphal West district, which resulted in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to six others, including security personnel and a journalist.
These incidents have heightened concerns about the relationship between Kuki militants and security forces, particularly with the Assam Rifles stationed nearby. The attacks raise serious questions about the effectiveness of security measures and highlight the escalating violence in the region.
