A newly constructed cultural complex of “Khenjonglang” was inaugurated at Keirao Bitra Khunou Awaching in Imphal East, with the aim of promoting theatre and preserving traditional art forms in Manipur on Thursday. The event was jointly organized by Loinana Sankriti Kala Daeshan and Samvardhinee Nyas, Manipur.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by the Vice Chancellor of Manipur University of Culture, Professor Paonam Gunindro, as the chief guest. In his speech, he highlighted the significance of the National Education Policy 2020 in providing a platform for the development of various art forms. He stated that the newly inaugurated cultural complex would play a crucial role in nurturing and promoting Manipur’s traditional arts.
Professor Gunindro also underscored the importance of preserving the Lai Haraoba art form as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, ensuring its continuity for future generations. He expressed hope that the complex would serve as a space for artists and cultural practitioners to showcase and refine their craft.
The event was also attended by Member of Parliament Leisemba Sanajaoba and Union Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. The presence of the Union Minister was seen as a gesture of support towards the promotion of Manipur’s cultural heritage.
