Imphal, March 23:
Supreme Court judge, Justice N Kotiswar Singh, has emphasized that the challenges faced by Manipur can be overcome if people uphold constitutional principles.
Justice Kotiswar Singh was among the Supreme Court judges scheduled to visit Churachandpur. However, he refrained from making the visit following a ban imposed by the Churachandpur District Bar Association.
Speaking at the 12th-anniversary celebration of the Manipur High Court, he highlighted the Constitution’s role in providing guidance during difficult times. He stated that while Manipur, as a small state, faces challenges, its people can navigate them effectively by adhering to constitutional values.
Justice Singh was part of a Supreme Court delegation led by Justice B R Gavai, which visited Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts on Saturday. He noted that the team witnessed a sense of optimism and enthusiasm among the people in these areas.
“Churachandpur has rich traditions and a vibrant community. Many people from Imphal used to visit the district for various purposes. We have seen its contributions to the legal system, having produced two eminent judges of the Manipur High Court,” he remarked.
Urging citizens to work towards strengthening the nation, he said, “We must do everything in our power to uphold our country and refrain from any actions that weaken it.” Addressing the lawyers present at the function, he assured them that hard work and sincerity would always be recognized, regardless of geographical constraints.
The Supreme Court delegation, which arrived in Manipur on Saturday, visited relief camps and interacted with internally displaced persons. They also virtually inaugurated a legal services camp, a medical camp, and a legal aid clinic from the Mini Secretariat at Churachandpur district head quarter.
