Family members, friends and near and dear ones observed Jupiter Yambem’s 14th death anniversary at his parental residence at Uripok Yambem Leikai, Imphal West in a simple ceremony. Besides paying him a floral tribute, religious prayers were also offered for his departed soul. Jupiter Yambem was among the 3,000 people killed in al-Qaida’s coordinated suicide attacks on the World Trade Centre (WTC) in New York on September 11, 2001. He was on the 107th floor of the north WTC tower where he worked as a banquet manager in Windows on the World, the tallest restaurant of the world when the terrorists attacked. After struggling hard to make his own career in the US, Jupiter became the founding president of the North American Manipuri Association. He is survived by his wife, Nancy McCardle Yambem, and son Santi Mc Cardle (18).those present at the ceremony remembered the supreme sacrifice made by Jupiter on the fateful day when he, despite the eminent danger to his own lie, stayed back to save the lives of others.
