The Relief Committee of JNIMS Hospital today celebrated its Silver Jubilee at the Lecture Hall of the Medical Superintendent’s Office, marking 25 years of service in providing medical assistance to those injured during various public movements and crises in the state.
The programme featured the release of a souvenir titled Memorabilia and a two-minute silence in memory of those who lost their lives in different people’s movements. Long-serving members of the committee and individuals injured in various agitations were also honoured with Lengyan shawls in recognition of their contributions and sacrifices.
Speaking at the event, Relief Committee Chairman Thoidingjam Bon said the committee was formed in 2001 during the mass movement against the extension of the ceasefire agreement and has since been extending medical support to victims of public agitations and conflicts.
He stated that, with the support of hospital authorities and the public, the committee has provided assistance to 932 injured persons since its inception. The committee also extended medical aid to 439 people injured during the 2004 protests following the killing of Thangjam Manorama under the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), besides supporting 2,463 individuals affected by the Inner Line Permit (ILP) movement, the Sapam Robinhood agitation and the conflict that erupted on May 3, 2023.
Bon further informed that the committee has been providing medical assistance to injured persons from relief camps, protest sites and village defence groups. It has also facilitated access to health insurance benefits under schemes such as CMHT and PMJAY and pledged to continue its services in the future.
