In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, a joint team of the Special Mobile Police Unit (SMPU) and Jiribam Police Station on Monday seized a huge consignment of WY tablets valued at approximately Rs. 320 crore.
Acting on specific inputs, the operation was carried out at around 11.30 am under the leadership of the Officer-in-Charge, Jiribam Police Station, and under the supervision of Prakhar Pandey, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Jiribam. During the operation, the team intercepted three Tata trucks travelling from Imphal towards Assam.
A total of 12,80,000 (twelve lakh eighty thousand) WY tablets were recovered from the vehicles bearing registration numbers AS-28AC-1601, AS-01LC-9509 and AS-25FC-7422.
The vehicles were being driven by Santosh Patel (43) of Sagar district, Madhya Pradesh, Hanif Ali (28) of Bongaigaon district, Assam (both drivers of AS-28AC-1601), Faruk Ali (35) of Barpeta district, Assam (driver of AS-01LC-9509), and Mofij Uddin (29) of Kamrup district, Assam (driver of AS-25FC-7422).
Following completion of all legal formalities, the seized WY tablets were formally confiscated at around 4.30 pm on the same day. All four drivers were arrested in connection with the case.
A case has been registered at Jiribam Police Station vide FIR No. 48(12)2025 under sections 22(c)/29(1)/60(3) of the ND&PS Act, and further investigation is underway.
