JCILPS appeals to stop all entertainment activities; Emas ask political leaders0 to camp in Delhi till assent is given to ILPS Bills

Imphal, May 10: Women’s Wing of Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has appealed the people of the state to stop organising entertainment activities during the ongoing movement for implementation of Inner Line Permit System in Manipur. In a press meet, Thokchom Apabi, Convenor of the Women’s Wing said that JCILPS will continue their demand for ILPS and democratic protest demonstration till the 3 (three) ILPS Bills become Acts.
She also appealed the Chief Minister of Manipur to lead a delegation of all political parties and mount pressure on the Government of India to convert the ILPS Bills into Acts at the earliest.
Meanwhile, mothers of Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai have demanded all the political leaders to open their camps in national capital till the Center gives its assent to the Bills. They also assured to provide all the financial needs of all the political parties for their camping at New Delhi.
Speaking to media persons at the sideline of a sit-in-protest held today at Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai Waiting shed, N Basanti Leima, President of Elangbam Leikai Apunba Nupi Meira Lup said that political parties camped for days in Delhi to topple a government or save it. They can work day and night only for government and power. However when it comes for ILPS, the same political leaders have no time instead of playing games with the emotions and aspirations of the public.
Stating that the 3 ILPS Bills were passed by the Manipur legislative Assembly 9 (nine) months ago at the cost of a life of an innocent student- Robinhood; the Meira Paibi leader enquired the state government that when will the bills see the light of the day and how many lives are still needed to sacrifice?
The marginalised indigenous people want to protect themselves from the influx of non-locals; and it is the duty and responsibility of the legislatures and political leaders to fulfil the will of its citizen without any delay, said the President of Apunba Nupi Lup. Basanti also demanded to delete all the non-locals from the list of voter and prevent them from casting and contesting in local elections.
In support of the demand for a permit system to regulate entry of non-locals, vendor women of Kwakeithel have also blocked the Tiddim road from today afternoon to evening. ILPS supporters of Kongba, Singjamei, Thangmeiband, Konung Mamang, Wangkhei and Uripok are have also staged sit-in-protest by blocking half of the roads.
