Jana Neta Irabot Admirer and Research Centre calls for corrections in biographies of Hijam Irabot

Imphal, April 28:

Jana Neta Irabot Admirer and Research Centre has called for corrections in biographies of Hijam Irabot in the light of their recent findings. In a recent press conference held by the Jana Neta Irabot Admirer and Research Centre in Manipur, RK Sanajaoba Singh, the Secretary-General of the center, emphasized the importance of accurate and well-researched portrayals of Jana Neta Irabot, a pivotal figure in Manipur’s history. The Centre urged authors of biographies on Irabot to make modifications in light of new findings unearthed by their research.
RK Sanajaoba Singh highlights the significance of Jana Neta Irabot’s legacy, stating, “Jana Neta Irabot is one of the most important leaders in Manipur. We believe that discussions and writings about him should be based on thorough research.” The call for corrections stems from discrepancies identified in existing biographies of Hijam Irabot, attributed to insufficient research.
Addressing specific inaccuracies, RK Sanajaoba Singh highlighted errors regarding Irabot’s birthplace and familial relationships. Contrary to popular belief, Irabot’s birthplace was Yaiskul Hijam Leikai, not Pisumthing Oinam Leikai. Additionally, Dr. Singh clarified that Loknath was Irabot’s grandfather, not his uncle as commonly stated. It was his uncle Gopal and uunt Tharongabi who played pivotal roles in raising and educating Irabot, rather than his aunt Ibeton, as often portrayed.
Moreover, historical inaccuracies surrounding Yaiskul Hijam Leikai’s fate during British rule were addressed. While it was previously believed that the British takeover resulted in the complete destruction of Yaiskul Hijam Leikai, recent findings suggest that a significant portion of the locality remained intact.
The Centre urged authors to consider these findings and incorporate necessary corrections in future editions of Irabot’s biographies. Additionally, the Centre appealed to the “Council of Higher Secondary Education regarding factual inaccuracies in educational texts about Hijam Irabot meant for school children, urging the Council to rectify these errors.”
